Ed Illanne began Ed's Heat & Air as a one-man operation doing mostly
repair work in Ocean Springs, Biloxi and Pascagoula Mississippi in 1967.
He worked hard and supported a large family. The business grew and the
crew which Ed hired and trained became highly skilled. Eventually, air
conditioning and heating system sales and installation became an
important part of the business. Ed did a good business and often saw
the systems he installed in the early part of his career finally wear
out. It was gratifying and encouraging that those customers called Ed
once again for their new systems.
Once they were old enough, Ed's son's began working with him during the
summers and on weekends. Although the boys went on to pursue many of
their own goals, Robert, the oldest, continued to help his father each
summer while going to college and even 20 years after earning his degree
in education.
Earlier this year Ed retired to go fishing, travel and dote on his
grandchildren. Robert Illanne took over the business and has worked with
great satisfaction at the trade he learned from his father. Just as his
father had done, Robert calls on his clients personally. Ed also taught
his son one other thing over the years: "Don't let technology sneak up
on you!" So Robert has kept up with the changes in environmental
control systems for the home, and changing technology for thermostats
and even changes in the formulas used to calculate the proper heating &
cooling needed for specific applications. Learning has never been
strange for Robert, though his young students still teach him something
new every day.
